Padres vs. AZ

Opening day line-up (with 2019 wRC+ vs. LHP):
- 223 .... Tatis (SS)
- 177 .... Machado (3B)
- 160 ... Pham (LF)
- 125 .... Profar (2B)
- 59 ... Hosmer (1B)
- 130 ... Myers (RF)
- 96 ... France (DH)
- 87 ... Mejia (C)
- 84 ... Grisham (CF)
Well, certainly stacked up top to face LH Bumgarner.
Note: Hedges had a 34 wRC+ vs LHP last year .... so for this game Mejia's bat wins over Hedges defense. Might be the case most of the year against LHP.

Bumgarner doesn’t worry me.
Profar hitting clean up does a little though....

More worried about Hosmer at #5 ... don't think he has ever got a hit off Bumgarner and Bumgarner knows it.
Good chance Profar never gets a good pitch to hit being ahead of Hosmer.
Not sure I would not have flipped Myers and Hosmer at a minimum. That would be a pretty productive 1 - 5 vs. LHP.

Paddack looks amazing again already! I saw an article earlier today on mlb.com where they went nuts over Dustin May and his amazing stuff after his opening day start. He gave up one run. Paddack pitched better, and against a better team.

I had stopped being hopeful for Hosmer ... what a tease 🙂
OK ... I'll stop hating him now ... but only until his OPS falls below .750 ...

Only one game but liked what I saw. Hitters dug themselves out of 1-2/0-2 counts to draw walks and get hits; 7 walks by Padres is something rarely seen (actually should have been 8 since Machado was robbed by HP umpire) as has been driving runners in scoring position with 2 outs. Paddack sharp enough to get win although he didn't have great stuff early. Pomeranz looked fantastic. I liked what Pagan and Guerra did even though they gave up runs. Pagan left a fat fastball over the plate but otherwise looked very good. Guerra had a swinging bunt to get the runner on and only because they didn't try to hold the runner at first did that little flair to right end up plating a run.
I think our runs scored were helped by the fact that AZ doesn't have a great OF defense, but that doesn't take away from the fact that Hosmer hit the ball well 3 out of 4 times.
Hope we have another good effort from Lamet tomorrow and they remain patient against Ray, another tough LHP.

When you get a win it's all good from Paddack to clubhouse guys
This 60 game sprint will be who can jump early and get that momentum going and maintain it
I like Lamet in this next one but Robbie Ray is nails and rebuilt to become a star
Nice win for the boys and Jayce Tingler, first of many I hope, and the new uniforms look killer
