The Padres announced their roster for the third edition of their Spring Breakout showcase game, which will be played Saturday evening in Mesa. While initial listings were announced earlier in the month, the actual players in uniform were revealed Wednesday.

Unsurprisingly, number two prospect Kruz Schoolcraft will pair with Ethan Salas, the top prospect in the system, as the starting battery when the Padres’ prospects square off against the Cubs. Salas, coming off a season lost to a stress reaction in his back, got into 11 games for the big league squad this spring before being reassigned to minor league camp to prepare for the 2026 campaign.
His progress offensively will be among the most critical storylines in the Padres farm system this year.
Schoolcraft, barely more than a year younger than Salas, will get the spotlight eight months after the Padres made him their first pick in last year’s draft. The 6-foot-8 lefty has quickly emerged as the top pitching prospect in an organization that is thinner than it has been at any time in a decade.
The Oregon native is expected to open the year headlining the Lake Elsinore Storm rotation.
Kash Mayfield (#3 prospect) and Miguel Mendez (#4), the likely top starters in Fort Wayne and San Antonio, respectively, figure to work behind Schoolcraft. Reliever Garrett Hawkins (#10), whose high-powered fastball earned him plenty of attention in big league camp, will likely serve as closer.

Among position players, Jorge Quintana (#6) and the catching tandem of Ty Harvey (#13) and Truitt Madonna (#16) will be getting their first high-profile exposure since joining the organization. Quintana, 18, has added significant muscle mass since the Padres acquired him for Brandon Lockridge at the trade deadline last year. The Venezuela product, who will hold down shortstop, will be the youngest player in the team’s starting lineup.
Harvey, who got second-round money to bypass a commitment to Florida State, and Madonna, who secured the fourth-largest bonus as an 11th-round pick, both came out of high school in last year’s draft. They project to split time between catcher and a variety of other positions in Lake Elsinore in the coming season.
With the organization featuring limited outfield roster depth, Kale Fountain will likely see time in right field during the game and once he reports to Lake Elsinore for his sophomore campaign. The big right-handed hitter, who was hampered by multiple injuries last year, will look to turn his raw physicality into power production this season.
The two youngest players on the roster are both 2025 international signees. Infielder Jose Verdugo performed well in the Dominican Summer League last year and was the only player brought stateside for instructional league play after the season. The Mexican national – unrelated to organizationmates Rosman, Luis, or Alex – has shown impressive polish for a player with his limited exposure.
Taiwanese right-hander Lan-Hong Su, who signed late last year for one of the largest bonuses the Padres doled out in the class, is listed on the roster less than a month after arriving at the Peoria Sports Complex for his first professional action. The 18-year-old is still rail thin, but shows great feel for the strikezone with multiple pitches and projects to add significant mass and velocity as he develops.
