Prospect Watch: Victor Lizarraga, 21, picked up the victory in his Triple-A debut as he gave up just one run over five innings. The righty didn’t have his best command, walking three and hitting two batters, but he struck out five. In all, he generated eight swings and misses, a moderate 23.5% whiff rate, but kept batters off balance enough that he got 16 called strikes on the night. He was only in the zone with 40 of his 86 pitches, which led to only a 15.2% chase rate. Lizarraga’s sinker and curve both generated good results, but the shape of both pitches left something to be desired. The sinker averaged just 8.3 inches of induced vertical break while his curveball, spinning at just 1981 rpm, logged just -2.7 inches of IVB. The righty’s second season in the Texas League was a disappointment, but has has posted a 2.36 ERA over his last five starts despite continuing to post a troubling walk rate over 12%. … Bradgley Rodriguez bounced back from a rough outing, working a scoreless eighth inning. The righty’s sinker topped out at 100.4 mph and was only put in play once in 11 offerings. He only went to his wipeout changeup six times, but he got two whiffs on three swings as the pitch averaged 10.2 inches of horizontal break at 89.0 mph. While he’s been able to generate decent whiff numbers in Triple-A, the poor quality of the contact he has induced has been even more impressive. In 15.1 PCL innings, opponents have just a .281 xwOBA. … Luis Campusano logged his sixth multi-hit game in the last eight. He finished the night 2-for-4 with his 25th homer of the year. He also laced a 108.6 mph double in the bottom of the third. With El Paso, Campusano boasts a 1.052 OPS and a 149 wRC+ while hitting .339. His average exit velocity of 93.3 mph, 55.4% hard hit rate, and .423 xwOBA all rank in the 99th percentile among triple-A hitters this season … Yonathan Perlaza went 1-for-4, with his lone hit of course being a double. The switch-hitter now has 47 two-baggers on the year, 11 more than any other player in the minors. Loud contact has not been the issue this year with Perlaza, as his 90.3 mph average exit velocity and 46.9% hard hit rate rank in the 82nd and 84th percentile, respectively. However, he has been unable to make consistent contact as he owns a 30.9% whiff rate and a troubling 79% in-zone contact rate.

Prospect Watch: Luis Gutierrez looked strong in his Double-A debut, working five scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and walking two. He struck out four as he tallied seven total swings and misses for a 23.3% whiff rate. What is likely his final outing of the 2025 season put a bow on what’s been a strong 2025 campaign for the 22-year-old left-hander. In 120 innings between Lake Elsinore, Fort Wayne, and now San Antonio, Gutierrez owns a 3.23 ERA, 3.94 FIP, and 4.03 xFIP. While his strikeout rate was a modest 21.5%, he’s limited walks and induced a good amount of weak contact that show up in his 47.5% ground ball rate and 18.5% infield fly ball rate. … Harry Gustin earned his second save with the Missions after the left-hander inherited runners on first and second with none away in the ninth inning. He proceeded to get a strikeout and a pair of groundouts to end the game. Gustin has yet to give up a run in 11.1 innings since arriving with the Missions. He’s allowed only one hit, though he has walked five and owns a 3.13 FIP. In 61 innings between Fort Wayne and San Antonio on the year, he boasts a 1.95 ERA, 3.06 FIP, and a strong 28.6% strikeout rate. … Braedon Karpathios lashed a two-run single to center to get the scoring started in the top of the first inning. Since his promotion on August 20, Karpathios has continued to post solid numbers. While he’s hitting just .219, he’s still posted a 121 wRC+, .350 wOBA, thanks to good power production and a strong 11.1% walk rate. Karpathos hasn’t seen a drop in bat-to-ball or plate discipline skills at Double-A, posting an 87.5% in-zone contact rate and 23.2% chase rate that are both well above average marks at the level. … Romeo Sanabria reached base twice didn’t log a hit but drew a pair of walks. The big first baseman has gotten on a bit of a hot streak over the last week-plus, going 12-for-42 with five extra-base hits and four RBIs. Still, as a whole, the second half of 2025 has been a struggle for Sanabria, who has posted a .277 wOBA, 74 wRC+ and .597 OPS since July 18.
