Prospect Watch: El Paso continued to pound the Arizona Diamondbacks’ top affiliate on the road, winning their fifth straight to move within a half game of Tacoma for the PCL’s best record in the second half. The Aces have the worst record in the league and have now lost 31 of 44 games. … Chihuahuas hitters continued to enjoy their visit to one of the best offensive parks in the minor leagues, as they rapped out three home runs among ten hits in a game they never trailed. … Luis Campusano reached base four times in five trips and now leads the PCL with a .441 on-base percentage and a .621 slugging percentage, while his .328 average ranks second. … With Campusano behind the plate, Rodolfo Durán continued his scorching August with three hits as the designated hitter for the evening. On the month, the 27-year-old journeyman is hitting .500/.552/.882 in 40 plate appearances. … After the Aces scored twice in the ninth inning, Chihuahuas’ manager Pete Zamora brought in Alek Jacob with two on and one out. The Gonzaga product struck out the first batter he faced and ended the game with a pop-up to shortstop for his first save of the year. Over his last 14 appearances, the funky righty has allowed only two runs. He has held PCL opponents to a .160 batting average in August.

Prospect Watch: The bottom has dropped out for the Missions, who lost their tenth straight game. The offense last homered on August 3, while the pitching staff now has a 5.06 ERA for the month. The Missions got on the board in the first inning when Devin Ortiz came around from second on Francisco Acuña’s bunt single and a throwing error, but didn’t score again until a two-run triple from Anthony Vilar in the sixth. The Missions had runners on the corners the ninth inning, but Marcos Castañon grounded into a game-ending double-play. Earlier in the game, the infielder had extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a single. He is hitting .346/.443/.481 on the month … Acuña reached base four times and stole three bases in the contest. The 25-year-old minor league free agent signee now has 20 on 27 attempts. … Enmanuel Pinales had one of his worst starts of the year after a strong outing hist last time out. The righty, walked six and hit a batter en route to giving up five earned runs in just 2.2 innings. Only 42 of his 84 pitches went for strikes. Since the start of July, the 24-year-old has a 6.32 ERA and a 1.59 WHIP.

Prospect Watch: The TinCaps ended their three-game losing as Luis Gutierrez, Harry Gustin, and Nick Wissman held the visiting Whitecaps to five singles. Fort Wayne got on the board in the fourth on a Brendan Durfee RBI double to right, then added on in the eighth on a wild pitch and an RBI single from Lamar King Jr. … Luis Gutierrez struggled with command, walking four and hitting a pair of batters, but still managed to hold the potent Whitecaps lineup to one hit and strike out five. He was forced to wait out a 38 minute rain delay before throwing his fourth and final inning. The Venezuelan lefty has posted a very strong 2.24 ERA in 52.1 innings at home across two levels this year, as compared to a 4.34 mark on the road. At Parkview Field, he has held opponents to a .201 batting average. … After missing all of July on the IL, Harry Gustin gave up a couple of runs in his return, but he hasn’t allowed a run in three appearances (six innings) since. Subscribers can read about the lefty, who went from pitching less than an inning of high school ball, to leading the University of Hawaii staff. He has posted a 2.36 ERA in 49.2 innings while relying on a four-pitch mix this season. … King finished the game with a pair of hits and is now hitting .324/.378/.382 for August while seeing time at catcher, first base, and designated hitter. The 21-year-old has more plate appearances this year than he totaled in his first three professional seasons. … The TinCaps are auctioning off the special uniforms they wore as part of their ‘Caps Against Cancer Night‘ to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. Prospect Watch: Down 10-4, the Storm rallied with five runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to tie the game at the Diamond. After San Jose scored one in the top of the 10th inning, Elsinore caught a break to even it again on a two-out throwing error. The Giants again pulled ahead by one in the eleventh, and when Ryan Wideman attempted to tag up on a one-out line drive to right field, he was easily thrown out at the plate to end the game. … Although he’s missed much of the year to injury and only played in 37 games, Alex McCoy, 23, has been a major find as an undrafted free agent signee out of Hofstra University. The 6-foot-6, 260-pound Baltimore native hit three doubles as part of a four-hit night to continue a stellar August. The 23-year-old is hitting .431/.508/.843 for the month with only a 14.8% strikeout rate. He punched out more than a third of the time in his first month of the season. … Bryan Balzer, 20, continued his inconsistent year, allowing four runs on six hits in 3.2 innings. While he continues to flash quality building blocks that helped him allow only two hits in his last start, he now owns a 7.83 ERA on the year. … Carlos Rodriguez, 22, reached base twice to push his on-base percentage to .429 for the season. The left-handed hitting catcher spent most of his first four professional seasons in the complexes, but has put on enough strength to make an impact offensively. … Adam Conrad, 22, was charged with an unearned run when the Manfred Man came around in the 10th inning, but ran his streak of innings without an earned run to 10.2. The righty, the first product of Carolina University to sign a contract in affiliated ball, is yet another unsigned free agent who is finding success in the organization. He has posted a 3.38 ERA, and 52 strikeouts in 53.1 innings, though his 15.6% walk rate will need to improve significantly.
