Key Stats: LHP Jackson Wolf (W, 5-2) 5 IP, 2 ER, 7 H, 3 BB, 3 K; RHP Sean Reynolds, IP, 1 H, 1 BB; DH Luis Campusano, 3-for-5, 2 HR (21), 3 RBI; CF Tirso Ornelas 3-for-4, 2 2B, BB; RF Yonathan Perlaza, 2-for-5, HR (13), 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R

Prospect Watch: A day after becoming El Paso’s all-time home run leader, Luis Campusano added two more to his career total as part of a 3-for-5 day. In the first, Campusano turned on a fastball in the upper third blasted it out at 111 mph. His second long-ball in the ninth logged an exit velocity of 104.5 mph. Those sorts of monster exit velocities are something Campusano has generated all season in Triple-A. He’s posted a 14.5% barrel rate, 55.7% hard hit rate, and 93.5 mph average exit velocity, all of which rank in the 96th percentile or better among Triple-A hitters this season. … Tirso Ornelas had himself a fine night in Reno, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Ornelas’ contact was loud, logging a 105.6 EV on his double in the ninth and a 100.7 EV on his single in the third. He’s gone 7-for-17 with five extra-base hits over his last four games as he returns from an eight-week stint on the IL. … Yonathan Perlaza also logged a multi-hit evening, going 2-for-5 with a double and a home run. Perlaza crushed a tape measure shot in the fourth, blasting a 107.6 mph shot 456 feet. Perlaza owns a 46% hard hit rate and 90.1 average exit velocity in his return from Korea. On the bump, El Paso received a solid start from left-hander Jackson Wolf. The 26-year-old allowed two runs on seven hits over five innings, with three walks and three strikeouts. Wolf’s most effective pitch on the night was his curveball, which generated a 44.4% whiff rate and 45.5% chase rate Sean Reynolds worked around a hit and a walk to get through the ninth. Reynolds’ velocity remains down noticeably from last season, with his four-seamer sitting at 95.4 mph with only 14.3 inches of induced vertical break. His slider, through, remains a high quality offering, getting opponents to chase at a stellar 57.1% rate and generating a 42.9% whiff rate.

Tulsa Drillers 5, Missions 1

Key Statistics: RHP Eric Yost (L, 1-2) 5 IP, 5 R (4 ER), 8 H, 2 BB, 3 K; RHP Stephen Jones, 2 IP, H, BB, K; 1B Romeo Sanabria, 2-for-4, BB; DH Marcos Castañon, 2-for-5; CF Wyatt Hoffman, 2-for-4

Prospect Watch: The Missions had seven hits and as many walks, but couldn’t come through with an extra-base hit and went just 2-for-13 with runners on base as they fell to Tulsa for the third straight. After two straight quality starts following his promotion to Double-A, Eric Yost had his first tough outing as a member of the Missions. The right-hander worked five innings, allowing four earned runs on eight hits, two walks, and struck out three. All four of the earned runs Yost allowed came in the fourth inning, when five straight Drillers reached base, including a double and triple. Yost was unable to generate much swing and miss, getting only five whiffs and a 13.1% whiff rate. … Stephen Jones worked a pair of scoreless relief innings despite allowing one hit and two walks. He was able to work around the traffic by inducing a ground ball double play to end the seventh inning, and a strikeout to end the eighth. He generated two whiffs and a 15.3% whiff rate. He owns a 3.97 ERA and 4.08 FIP in 47.2 IP this season. Romeo Sanabria logged a multi-hit effort, going 2-for-4 with a walk. The second half has been a struggle for the 23-year-old who has posted just a 78 wRC+, .610 OPS, while hitting .226 dating back to June 17. Perhaps most concerning, the Missions’ first baseman has logged just eight extra base hits in his last 178 plate appearances. … Marcos Castañon had two more hits to extend his hitting streak to 11 games and continue his solid 2025 season. In his age-26 season, Castañon owns a 125 wRC+, .768 OPS, and is hitting .273. Castañon has continued to be an aggressive hitter all season, posting a 51.8% swing rate and 74.4% in-zone swing rate.

West Michigan Whitecaps 5, TinCaps 4

Key Statistics: SP Sam Whiting (L, 0-3) 5 IP, 8 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 4 K; 1B Jack Costello, 1-for-2, 2 RBI; Jonathan Vastine, 2-for-4, 2B, R; C Brendan Durfee, 1-for-4, R

Prospect Watch: Jack Costello accounted for two Fort Wayne’s runs, going 1-for-2 with a two-run single out of the eight spot in the bottom of the second inning. At the time, he handed the TinCaps an early 2-1 lead. Much as he did during his year at USD, Costello has made consistent contact all season, posting an 85% in-zone contact rate that is one of the highest in the Midwest League. The contact hasn’t translated into results, though, as the 24-year-old has managed just a .296 wOBA, and .613 OPS in 329 at-bats. … While Braedon Karpathios had a rather unremarkable day at the plate, going 0-for-3 with a walk, he logged not one, but two outfield assists. Both times, he threw out West Michigan’s Austin Murr trying to advance. In addition to another excellent season at the plate in which he has posted a 130 wRC+ that’s good for 12th in the Midwest League, the 22-year-old undrafted free agent also has 14 outfield assists while showing the ability to run down balls in the gap. … Jonathan Vastine, the Padres’ 19th-round pick last month, logged his first career multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. At Vanderbilt, he flashed occasional power to the pull side but he also swung and missed 30% of the time. Vastine’s strength on the field lies with his defense where he shows plus range and a plus arm at shortstop.
