Prospect Watch: The Chihuahuas ran wild, stealing six bases in the game. That included some guys not known for their speed. Luis Campusano stole his first base of the year and also connected on his first triple since May 15, 2022. The backstop leads the PCL with a 1.163 OPS. He’s walked nearly as much as he’s struck out and has eight extra-base hits in 14 games. … Yonathan Perlaza stole his second base of the year. The power-hitting outfielder had his league-leading eighth double and scored two. The minor league signee from the KBO is fourth on the circuit with a 1.058 OPS. … Trenton Brooks, whose 1.055 OPS ranks fifth, also stole his second base of the season. He reached base once and stole the first chance he got. He later scored on Campusano’s double. … The star of the game was Mason McCoy, who, you guessed it, stole a base, his second. McCoy collected three hits, including a double and a sac fly, scored two, and knocked in two. The 30-year-old is hitting .283/.391/.415 this season. … What catcher allowed so many stolen bases to a team without any true threats? Old friend, Austin Nola. … Starter Jared Kollar navigated a ton of traffic on the bases to get through four innings of work, allowing two earned runs. The righty didn’t record a strikeout, but he induced eight grounders, two of which were turned into double plays to offset eight hits and a pair of walks.

Prospect Watch: After throwing 5.1 innings over his first two Double-A starts, Jagger Haynes was masterful on the mound as he came a batter shy of completing six innings in his third. Over the first five innings, he allowed four baserunners on 57 pitches, inducing grounder after grounderto get easy, quick outs. A passed ball in the sixth led to the only run the Naturals scored all night, but Haynes finished his night by retiring one of baseball’s top prospects, Jac Caglianone, on a weak grounder to first. … Offensively, the Missions got everything they needed in the first inning. After two of the first three batters reached base, Moisés Gómez hit a big home run to left. The 26-year-old leads the Missions with three homers and has a .951 OPS on the season. The former Cardinals prospect had a breakout 2022 season with 39 home runs and a .995 OPS between Double and Triple-A, but failed to replicate his success. He’s cut his strikeout rate down to 25% in is first season since catching on with the Padres in the offseason. … After turning plenty of heads in spring training, Bradgley Rodriguez continues to dominate. He pitched a scoreless ninth, striking out all three batters he faced on 15 pitches to earn his third save on the season. The 21-year-old has struck out 10 in his first six innings of work on the season, with a stellar 39.1% strikeout-minus-walk rate.

Prospect Watch: The TinCaps came back from a 3-1 deficit, scoring three in the ninth to secure their first walk-off win of the year. Brandon Butterworth hit a chopper to short that was not fielded cleanly, allowing the player-of-the-game, Rosman Verdugo, to score the game-winning run. For Verdugo, it capped a big night when he came up a triple short of the cycle. The 20-year-old connected on his first home run of the year to boost his OPS from .497 entering the day to .723. … Making just his second start in the organization, Clark Candiotti was close to unhittable. Not only did he allow only one hit, but only four of the 15 batters he faced put the ball in play. Candiotti had a nearly 59% whiff rate on his 65 pitches. The 24-year-old, a senior sign in the compensation round last year, struck out the last two batters he faced, then gave way after hitting his pitch limit. … Another of the Padres’ fourth-round picks had almost as impressive an outing. Tyson Neighbors earned his first professional victory, showing off his firefighting skills. The righty came on in the eighth with a runner on third, then pitched out of the jam. In the ninth, he struck out two more, easily pumping upper-90s gas. The 22-year-old has now struck out 12 in 5.2 innings. Neighbors continued to fight for control as he walked one and hit a batter, giving him five walks and two hit batters. Remarkably, he has more strikeouts than runners allowed. …Leo De Vries was a late scratch from the lineup after taking a bad hop to the head during batting practice, per Dennis Lin of The Athletic. He was pulled to be evaluated for a concussion, so he wasn’t ready when the final lineup had to be set, but he cleared and should be back in the lineup Thursday.

Prospect Watch: Sloppy play and stranded runners led to the Storm falling to 2-9. Offensively, Sean Barnett led the way with three hits. The two-way player, whose arm soreness in spring training still has him working only as a designated hitter, owns a five-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in all 10 games he has played. Barnett is 8-for-21 (.380) with four doubles and four walks during this stretch. … Kaden Hollow reached base three more times and has a .400 OBP to start the season. The 24-year-old from Dixie State doubled and picked up two more RBIs. Hollow is already six away from the career high 15 RBIs he had last year. … After making his professional debut Tuesday night, Kavares Tears was out of the lineup before collecting a pinch-hit single in the eighth. After dealing with hamstring issues for an extended time last fall and this spring, Tears will get regular time off as he builds up. He should be back in the lineup Thursday.
