Prospect Watch: Las Vegas’s offense put up eight runs over the final three innings to put this one out of reach and claim a series victory. Starter Austin Krob cruised through the first three innings, striking out two and inducing five groundouts. But when he came out for the fourth inning for the first time this season, the lefty gave up a pair of hits and a sacrifice fly on weak-hit balls before another double put a second run on the board. Krob allowed three more runs in the fifth, his final inning of the day. Despite the rough final line, Krob landed 55% of his 78 pitches in the strike zone, punched out four and did not issue a walk. … Luis Campusano and Yonathan Perlaza remained red hot for the Chihuahuas offense. Campusano, in the lineup at designated hitter, came up a triple short of a cycle, connecting on his third homer of the season has he hit three balls at least 100 mph. He’s hit in six straight games and posted a .944 slugging percentage in the series. Perlaza, 26, had a double among his three hits to extend his hitting streak to eight games. The switch-hitter’s return from the KBO is off to a stellar start. Perlaza is hitting .383/.434/.638, though his strikeout rate is hovering at 26.4%. … For the second time in the series, Tirso Ornelas got hit by a pitch, though this one caught his elbow guard. He’s reached base at a .407 clip through his first 13 games.

Missions 8, Corpus Christi Hooks 2

Key Stats: 1B Romeo Sanabria 4-for-5, 2B, 3 R; LF Moisés Gómez 1-for-3, HR (1), 2 HBP; 3B/1B Devin Ortiz 2-for-5; C Ethan Salas 1-for-4, BB; LHP Jackson Wolf 5 IP, 1 H, 7 K; RHP Bradgley Rodriguez 2 IP, H, ER, 3 K

Prospect Watch: Jackson Wolf turned in a stellar outing to lead the Missions to a series win over the Astros’ Texas League affiliate. The 25-year-old lefty allowed just one hit over five innings while striking out seven batters. Wolf opened his second stint in the Padres organization last year with a rough showing for El Paso, but righted the ship working out of the Missions bullpen at the end of the year. This season, he’s allowed just two runs over nine innings in three outings, striking out 11 without a walk. … Bradgley Rodriguez worked two innings, allowing his first run of the season in odd fashion. With two outs in the eighth inning, the hard-throwing righty gave up a double before being called for balks on consecutive deliveries to push across the run. Rodriguez punched out three and got three weak groundouts as he went multiple innings for the second time this week. … After getting Saturday night off, Romeo Sanabria returned to the lineup with a vengeance, going 4-for-5 with a double. The big first baseman scored three runs and is now tied for second in the Texas League with 10 on the season. He has a stellar .444/.459/.694. … Moisés Gómez connected on his second homer of the season and has now hit in seven of his eight games. The 26-year-old minor league free agent signee has always showed huge power, but has struck out in more than a third of his plate appearances in the upper minors. So far this year, he’s cut that to a 17.1% rate. If he can maintain even a mid-twenties rate, he could put up huge numbers.

TinCaps 3, Dayton Dragons 1

Key Stats: SS Leo De Vries 0-for-4, BB; RF Braedon Karpathios 3-for-4; CF Nerwilian Cedeño 2-for-4, 2B, 2 R; RHP Eric Yost 4 IP, 6 H, 1 R (0 ER), 6 K; RHP Tyson Neighbors 1.1 IP, 2 K, BB, S (1)

Prospect Watch: Fort Wayne bounced back from a rough game Saturday on the back of a stellar outing by Eric Yost and a trio of relievers, who combined to punch out 10 Dragons. While Yost, 22, gave up six singles, he punched out six and induced five grounders to limit the damage to one unearned run. The Padres’ 17th-round draft pick out of Northeastern in 2023 has a 0.00 ERA, but has allowed five unearned runs in his 6.2 frames this year. … Tyson Neighbors picked up his first save of the year, punching out two in his 1.1 innings. The University of Kansas product has a stellar 41.9% strikeout rate since the Padres selected him in the fourth round last year, though his walk rate in the early going this year is an unsustainable 20%. … Switch-hitter Nerwilian Cedeño had a single and double and scored a pair of runs. The long-time Padres farmhand, now 23, has made all but one of his starts this year in center field, a position he had never played before. … Braedon Karpathios had his first three-hit game of the year. The left-handed outfielder has edged his early-season line up to .269/.406/.385. He’ll look to continue to stay aggressive at the plate to do damage on pitches in the zone.

Storm 9, Modesto Nuts 4

Prospect Watch: The Storm used two big innings to put this one out of reach and claim their second straight victory. Blanked through the first three frames, Elsinore got a leadoff double from Yendry Rojas in the fourth before before a pair of walks loaded the bases for Sean Barnett, the club’s hottest hitter. The designated hitter muscled a grounder through the infield for a single. After a Zach Evans sacrifice fly, B.Y. Choi rifled a double to left to give Elsinore a lead they would never relinquish. Rojas had a strong game, going 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, pushing his OPS up to .842 on the year. A seven-figure signing out of Cuba in the 2022 international free agent class, Rojas struggled badly at the plate in his first three campaigns in the organization including a repeat performance in the ACL last summer. Now 20 years old, Rojas hadn’t had an extra-base hit in his first six games of the year coming into the day. … Choi, making his second start at first base of both the series and his career, went 2-for-4 with a walk as he drove in three. … Luis Gutierrez, 21, gave up one earned run as he struck out four over 3.1 innings. After walking six in his first start of the year, the Venezuelan lefty dialed in his command better Sunday, with 43 strikes in 73 total pitches, issuing two free passes. … While the Storm bullpen came into the game with an ugly 10.35 ERA, a trio of relievers held the Nuts to just one earned run over 5.2 innings in this one. Lefty Igor Gil walked one and hit a batter while striking out two, while Braian Salazar finished out the game with two strikeouts in a perfect inning. … Lamar King Jr. was out of the lineup for a third consecutive game after he left Thursday night’s content in the ninth inning. The backstop, who has fought injuries ever since the Padres drafted him in the fourth round in 2022, took a foul ball off his thigh, then slammed his throwing hand on the ground in frustration.
