Prospect Watch: Pitching was the name of the game for El Paso in a 4-0 shutout of the visiting Space Cowboys (wooooo wooooo) who failed to shake the Chihuahuas’ tree on a night Jared Kollar dominated. Kollar picked up his 11th win of the season and second since being promoted to Triple-A with a sensational outing, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out five in five-plus innings of work. The Seton Hill and Rutgers product, freshly turned 26, is 11-3 with a 3.00 ERA in 2024 as the former undrafted free agent continues to surge through the system. Though his velocity tops out in the low 90s, his extreme over-the-top delivery generates frequent bad contact, including an inordinate number of foul balls. … Logan Gillaspie struck out three batters in earning the six-out save. The Bakersfield native has excelled in his stints in El Paso strung out between big league promotions with a 3.62 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 32.1 innings of work in 2024. … Leadoff hitter Nate Mondou drove in a pair of runs and smacked a pair of singles in a two-hit outing. The 29-year-old infielder is batting .275 with a .796 OPS for El Paso while playing primarily first and second base. He logged time at both Thursday. … The power came from Mason McCoy, who slugged a pair of doubles and scored two runs while driving in one himself. The 29-year-old also swiped his team-best 24th base of the year, leaving him one short of his career high. The former sixth-round pick of the Orioles is batting .251 with a .684 OPS in 351 at-bats in the 2024 season.

Prospect Watch: The Missions erased a 1-0 deficit to back Henry Baez, even though they managed just four singles and scored only one run off a hit on a wild night in Springfield. Baez delivered six quality innings for his second victory since being promoted to Double-A, and now owns a 2.08 ERA in three Texas League starts as the 21-year-old righty has cruised in the early going with the Missions. Baez is 4-3 with a 2.79 ERA overall in 2024, split between San Antonio and the Fort Wayne TinCaps. He last gave up more than two runs in a start on May 17. In his second season of full-season ball, he’s now thrown at least five innings in eight of his last 10 appearances. … Carter Loewen recorded four outs and picked up his sixth hold of the season while striking out a batter. The Hawaii alum has struck out 51 batters in 40.1 innings in 2024 to go along with a 4.02 ERA. … Connor Hollis went 1-for-5 and also factored into some of the big plays of the night. The center fielder reached on a throwing error in the third as the tying run scored. and then was caught stealing second base as the go-ahead run crossed the plate. Hollis then scored the final run of the game on a wild pitch in the fifth inning. The 29-year-old utility player is batting .239 with a .615 OPS in the 2024 season. … San Antonio scored one run on an error, one on a double steal, and a run on a wild pitch, but the lone RBI on a hit belonged to 22-year-old first baseman Romeo Sanabria, who logged an RBI single in his second game of Double-A action. Sanabria is batting .292 with an .854 OPS in 349 at-bats in 2024 split across three levels as the Miami native began the season with Lake Elsinore before promotion to Fort Wayne and eventually San Antonio. The big lefty has maintained strong walk and strikeout rates throughout the year, though he saw his power tail off in 34 games in the Midwest League.

Prospect Watch: Solid pitching performances bolstered the TinCaps in a win over in-state rivals South Bend, thanks in large part to a stellar start from Eric Yost in his High-A debut. The 21-year-old righty held the Cubs to one run on four hits and a walk while striking out four batters in five innings to continue a solid 2024 season. Yost, a 17th-rounder out of Northeastern last year, is 4-2 with a 4.71 ERA and 84 strikeouts in 86 innings pitched between Lake Elsinore and the TinCaps. He’s been pushed to work off his fastball more frequently to set up an above-average breaking ball. … The win went to Jose Luis Reyes, who scattered four hits while allowing one run in three innings of work as he made his High-A debut as well. The Mexicali native, now two years removed from Tommy John surgery, had an up-and-down campaign for Lake Elsinore to begin the 2024 season with a 6.94 ERA in 18 appearances. … Ethan Salas got the start at designated hitter and slugged his 17th double of the season while adding a walk. Salas is batting .196 on the season, but his .659 OPS in August has been his best monthly mark of the 2024 season thus far. … Wyatt Hoffman held down the ninth spot in the order with a pair of hits while starting at shortstop. The 25-year-old infielder is 2-for-8 since being promoted to the TinCaps from Lake Elsinore.

Prospect Watch: A five-run third inning by Stockton doomed the Storm in California League action. After the rough start to things, Braian Salazar struck out three batters in relief. The 19-year-old lefty did allow the inherited runner to score, but he got things going in the right direction after. The Venezuelan was making his full-season debut after posting a 5.76 ERA in the Arizona Complex League. A key part of the 2022 international free agent class, the lefty missed most of last year with shoulder issues. … Bernard Jose fared a bit better, allowing a hit and striking out two in a pair of scoreless innings. The 21-year-old Dominican righty was also making his affiliate debut after going 2-2 with a 4.99 ERA in 21 appearances in Peoria in 2024. … This year’s 10th-rounder Jack Costello hit his second professional home run in three games since joining the Storm.The Simi Valley native hit eight homers for the University of San Diego Toreros in his senior season. … Leodalis De Vries connected on yet another homer — his 11th of the season and second of the series. The talented shortstop is only hitting .192 to start August but he still flashing the exceptional power he displayed in July. While the Padres promoted seven players up to Fort Wayne after the deadline, De Vries has stayed put to allow him to consolidate his stellar debut season and experience playoff baseball next month.
