Prospect Watch: The Express rode fast through El Paso to the tune of 10 runs as Daniel Camarena struggled in his second appearance (first start) of the 2024 season. The veteran lefty allowed five runs on five hits and a trio of walks while he failed to record a strikeout in two innings of work. The veteran lefty returns to El Paso after spending the duration of what essentially became an extended rehab assignment for the 2023 season in San Antonio, posting a 6.20 ERA in 69.2 innings and striking out 54 for the Missions. … The sweetest relief from the bullpen came from righty Sean Reynolds who threw a pair of scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. Reynolds, acquired from the Marlins at the trade deadline as part of the package in exchange for Ryan Weathers, had posted a 17:7 strikeout-to-walk ratio and 3.50 ERA in his first 18 innings of Triple-A action before the trade. His mechanics got away from him in his first run with El Paso and he walked 27 batters while striking out 19 in 16 innings and earning a 13.50 ERA in 2023 with the Chihuahuas. … Making his third appearance of the season, Adrian Morejon tossed a scoreless frame and struck out one. The 25-year-old lefty, once considered a top starting pitching prospect in the organization, sat 97-98 mph with his fastball and broke out his knuckle change several times..

Brett Sullivan (Jorge Salgado)

A year after making his big league debut, Brett Sullivan made a compelling case to make the Opening Day roster as a third catcher who can also play the corners, due in part to his left-handed bat. While Sullivan has begun the season in El Paso, he’s done everything he can to stay on the Padres’ radar, going 2-for-4 tonight to continue a scorching start that has him batting .462 with a 1.192 OPS in 26 at-bats for the Chihuahuas thus far. … Another player who made an impression on Padres fans in spring training was veteran outfielder Tim Locastro. The former Diamondbacks outfielder went 1-for-2 with a double and a stolen base, demonstrating his dynamic ability to change a game with his bat and his speed. The 31-year-old is 2-for-5 to begin the season.
