Prospect Watch: All eyes were on right-hander Nick Pivetta as he made his second outing since exiting the field mid-inning back on August 4,  Pivetta tossed 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits, and one walk while he punched out seven. His four-seamer sat around 92-93 mph— down 1.5 mph from his 2025 average— and topped out at 94.4 mph. By the time his fifth inning of work rolled around, his four-seamer sat at just 90.8 mph. Overall his arsenal generated a 22% whiff rate. His most effective offering was the sweeper, which collected a 60% whiff rate (three whiffs on five total swings). Pivetta recorded 44 strikes on 66 pitches, … Catching his second big league arm of the week, Ethan Salas reached base multiple times, going 1-for-3 with an RBI single, walk and stolen base. Since arriving in El Paso back in late July, all the 20-year-old backstop has done is hit, batting .326 with a .949 OPS. He’s running a 46% hard-hit rate and 6.8% barrel rate that are both above-average, and a Triple-A median 103.7 90th percentile exit velocity. Furthermore, he’s posted an absurd 93.1% in-zone contact rate and whiffed at just an 9.8% clip—both at the absolute top of the scale among Triple-A hitters. … The lone multi-hit effort of the afternoon belonged to left fielder Nick Solak. Neither of Solak’s base knocks were hit hard, logging exit velocities of 77.3 mph and 52.3 mph, but they helped him to just his second two-hit game in 17 contests. Over his past 20 games played, the veteran outfielder is slashing just .224/.229/.303

Springfield Cardinals 8, Missions 6

Prospect Watch: After a slow couple of days, Alex McCoy turned in a big afternoon in Sunday’s series finale, going 3-for-4 with a homer, three RBIs and a walk. In 14 games played on the Double-A circuit, McCoy owns a .894 OPS and sports an encouraging .342 wOBA and 21.6% air pull rate. He also owns concerning 33.3% strikeout and 43.6% whiff rates for the Missions. Nevertheless, the big outfielder has had one of the best seasons in the system. If McCoy manages to swat three homers in the season’s final two weeks, he would become just the fourth Padres prospect with a 20/20 season in the AJ Preller era… Hitting out of the leadoff spot, Braedon Karpathios delivered a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a double, walk and two runs scored. One of the streakiest hitters in the San Diego system, the former undrafted free agent was on fire in August, slashing .313/.394/.552 with five homers and .404 wOBA. During this power surge, he’s been pulling the ball far more, posting a 15.4% pull air rate… Justin DeCriscio delivered a three-hit day for the Missions, going 3-for-3 with a trio of singles. Maybe one of the more underrated performers in the San Diego system this season, the USD and NC State product is hitting .346 since his promotion to Double-A.  Across three levels, he owns an .805 OPS with an in-zone contact rate north of 90% and just a 15.6% strikeout rate… Garrett Hawkins worked 2.2 scoreless, hitless innings, allowing one walk while fanning four. Despite a strong outing, it’s been a tough stretch for the right-hander, who owns a 6.17 ERA and 1.63 WHIP in August.

Prospect Watch: In the final game of the 2026 season at Parkview Field, the Fort Wayne offense came to life, scoring nine runs on 10 hits. Fourth-rounder Robbie Lavey did the bulk of the heavy lifting, going 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs. The 20-year-old’s loudest contact of the afternoon came on his ringing two-run single in the fifth, which left his bat at 110 mph. In his first 13 games at High-A, Lavey owns a .764 OPS. … Lamar King Jr. matched Lavey’s run production, turning in a 3-for-4, 4 RBI afternoon and falling a homer short of the cycle. It has been a difficult season for the 22-year-old, who owns just a .307 wOBA and .656 OPS in 89 games played with Fort Wayne, but he’s looking to finish the year strong. He’s posted an .813 OPS this month. … Winyer Chourio worked five innings on the bump, allowing two runs on four hits, walking five and fanning four. After a strong showing in Single-A, the right-hander has struggled since arriving in Summit City, posting a 7.00 ERA with opposing hitters generating an .874 OPS against him … Reliever Sean Barrett navigated around a one-out single in a scoreless eighth inning, striking out one. The right-hander’s fastball got up to 98 mph as his pitch mix generated a 40% whiff rate. While he has some of the more electric stuff in the Padres system, Barnett has still struggled in his second go-around at High-A, posting a 6.98 FIP and 11.25 ERA with the TinCaps.

Prospect Watch: The Storm found themselves on the wrong side of a shootout in Sunday’s series finale, falling to the Quakes 16-13. Joe Tiroly delivered a 2-for-5 day at the dish, which was headlined by the 2026 seventh-rounder mashing his fifth homer in the past six games. The 22-year-old owns a 1.030 OPS and a solid 89.1% in-zone contact rate in his short time with Lake Elsinore. … Ty Harvey collected a multi-hit game going 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored. Since returning from two months on the IL with a broken hand, it’s been a tough go for the young backstop, who owns just a .282 wOBA and 53 wRC+ over his past 31 games. … Alex Conover recorded a 2-for-6 day at the plate, driving in three runs. The 21-year-old has shown good bat control in his short time at Single-A, whiffing at just a 22% clip with a strong 89% in-zone contact rate. Still, the 2026 fourth-rounder needs to get the ball in the air more often moving forward, as he currently sports a 66.7% ground ball rate and just a 7% pull air rate. … Starter Luis Maracara logged just one inning of work. He gave up a double in the first, but escaped without damage as he struck out a batter. After his team put up seven runs in the top of the second, he returned to the mound and walked the first four batters and uncorked a wild pitch before he was relieved having thrown just 19 of 38 pitches for strikes. Two of the three runners he left on base came around to score. Maracara’s command issues have been consistent this season, as Sunday marked the fourth time he has walked three or more batters in an outing. The 19-year-old owns a 7.22 ERA and 6.36 FIP over 28.2 innings pitched.
