Chihuahuas 11, Sacramento River Cats 2

Key Statistics: RHP Sean Boyle (W, 7-5), 5 IP, 2 ER, 7 H, 7 K; RHP Andrew Moore 2 IP, H, BB, 2 K; DH Marcos Castañon 3-for-5, HR (13), 3 RBI, 2 R; RF Nick Solak 2-for-5, 2B, RBI, 2 R; 1B Romeo Sanabria 1-for-5, 2 RBI, R; 2B Will Wagner 1-for-2, 2 BB, R; Nick Schnell 2-for-3, HR (12), 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB

Top Prospects: DH Marcos Castañon led the El Paso offense in an 11-2 win over Sacramento. The UC-Santa Barbara alum logged a 3-for-5 day at the dish, which featured  Castañon’s 13th long ball of the season in the bottom of the 4th. The blast left his bat at 100.9 mph and four of the five balls he put into play logged exit velocities north of 99 mph. While he walks at just a 6.5% clip, Castañon does show strong barrel control, whiffing only 20.8% of the time with a strong 87.5% in-zone contact rate. His batted-ball data, including a 111.6 max exit velocity and 40.6% hard-hit rate, is solid if not elite. … Romeo Sanabria turned in a 1-for-5 day at the plate, with his lone knock being a 107.3 mph two-run double in the bottom of the sixth. Early results in El Paso have been a interesting for Sanabria. He’s chasing at a 33.3% rate and has just a 79% in-zone contact rate; however, his 108.3 90th-percentile EV and 110.1 max exit velocity are solid marks. … Hitting out of the three-hole, Nick Solak went 2-for-5 with a double, RBI, and two runs scored. The double in the bottom of the fourth against Matt Wilkinson left Solak’s bat at 102.9 mph. Since returning to El Paso on June 28, the infielder is hitting just .207 with a .690 OPS. … Andrew Moore worked the final two innings for the Chihuahuas and allowed just one hit and walk, and struck out two without giving up a run. In total, the right-hander generated a 38% whiff rate (five swings and misses on 13 swings). Moore leaned heavily into his fastball, throwing it at a 67% rate on Sunday, with the offering averaging 97.3 mph. His command is still very much a work at progress, as the 26-year-old walked at least one in each of his first four Triple-A appearances, Moore does sport a 1.23 ERA and 12.2 K/9 in that same stretch.

Amarillo Sod Poodles 1, Missions 0

Key Statistics: LHP Jagger Haynes (L, 3-3) 5 IP, ER, 2 H, 3 BB, 4 K; RHP Josh Mallitz 2 IP, BB, 3 K; DH Ethan Salas 1-for-4, K; CF Jake Cunningham 1-for-4, K; RF Braedon Karpathios 0-for-4, 2 K; 3B Ryan Jackson 1-for-3

Top Prospects: Despite racking up eight hits, San Antonio would be shut out 1-0 by Amarillo in Sunday’s series finale. By box score standards, it was a quiet day at the plate for Ethan Salas as he went 1-for-4 with a single. That lone knock came in the bottom of the sixth, when Salas laced a 97 mph fastball from Sandro Santana into left. The single logged an exit velocity of 112. … Starter Jagger Haynes worked five innings, allowing just one run on two hits with three walks and four strikeouts. The southpaw had his swing-and-miss stuff working against the Sod Poodles, generating a 40% whiff rate (14 whiffs on 35 swings). Haynes has looked like the best starter in the Missions rotation for the better part of a month now, as he owns a 3.31 ERA while opposing hitters are batting just .177 against him… Josh Mallitz delivered another strong multi-inning relief appearance for the Missions, as the right-hander worked two scoreless, hitless innings, walking one with three punchouts. The righty posted four whiffs and a 25% whiff rate. Mallitz’s four-seamer sat 94-95 mph for the bulk of his outing and topped out at 96. His changeup also flashed quality arm-side fade. Over his past 16.1 innings, the Ole Miss alum sports a 1.10 ERA and 39.4% strikeout rate.

Great Lakes Loons 5, TinCaps 0

Key Statistics: LHP Jamie Hitt (L, 1-5) 6 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 6 K: LHP Brian Salazar 1.2 IP; CF Ryan Wideman 1-for-4; SS Justin DeCriscio, 1-for-3, BB; RF Kavares Tears, 1-for-4, 2 K; 3B Kerrington Cross, 0-for-4, 3 K

Top Prospects: After playing 14 innings Saturday night, the TinCaps needed length from starter Jamie Hitt. The left-hander responded by working six innings and allowed two runs on three hits with six strikeouts. He didn’t issue a walk. Sunday’s start marked the fourth time this season the southpaw has worked six or more innings. Hitt induced a 27.2%  whiff rate (12 whiffs on 44 swings) as he tossed 85 pitches. After signing for $10,000 as an eighth-round pick last year, the 23-year-old has posted a 5.31 ERA in 51.2 Midwest League innings. … After stacking 15 hits the night prior, the Fort Wayne offense managed just four hits on Sunday. One of those four knocks belonged to Kavares Tears, who had a single and two punch outs in four at-bats. While he logged only one hit Sunday, Tears is hitting .299 with a 1.112 OPS, 172 wRC+, and .467 wOBA since June 1. His nine long balls and .466 isolated power in that time frame rank first in the San Diego system. Still, despite this hot streak, there is still far too much swing-and-miss in his game as he’s punching out at a 32% clip during that same stretch. … Ryan Wideman went 1-for-4 with a single to wrap up a decent second week with the TinCaps that saw him slash .304/.360/.348. The speedy center fielder had a baserunning snafu on Sunday. In the bottom of the fourth, he left third base early in an effort to score on Tears’ fly ball, and was called out on appeal. Wideman’s aggressiveness on the base paths this season has been a bit of a double-edged sword. His 50 stolen bases are the most in all of MiLB; however, he’s also been thrown out 15 times, which also leads all of MiLB.

Stockton Ports 10, Storm 8

Key Statistics: RHP Luis Maracara (L, 0-1) 3 IP, 7 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 3 K; RHP Rordy Mejia 2 IP, 4 K; RHP Sean Barnett IP, BB, K; SS Jorge Quintana 2-for-4, HR (3), 2 RBI, 2 R, BB; 3B Dawson Willis 2-for-5, 2B, 3B 2 RBI; 1B Truitt Madonna 0-for-4, 4 K

Top Prospects: Luis Maracara made his second appearance, and first start, since joining the Storm from the ACL. The 18-year-old right-hander struggled in his three-plus innings of work, allowing seven runs on seven hits. He walked two and struck out three. The first four Ports hitters reached safely and all came around to score, building a first-inning lead Stockton never surrendered. The right-hander’s pitch mix would yield just a 17.3% whiff rate. While he put up a solid 30.2% strikeout rate in the ACL, opponents got to him for a .275 average. Cal League opponents are hitting .412 against him in the early going. … Jorge Quintana logged a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. The 19-year-old’s long ball in the seventh left his bat at 102 mph and clanged off the batter’s eye in center. As a whole, 2026 has been a struggle for the young shortstop. Along with hitting just .228 with a .637 OPS and .295 wOBA, he’s posting a somewhat alarming 55.9% ground-ball rate. That’s the fourth highest ground-ball rate among qualified hitters in the Cal League this season and 11th highest among all qualified hitters at the Single-A level. … Third baseman Dawson Willis was 2-for-5 with a double, a triple, and two RBI’s in Sunday’s series finale. The former Oklahoma Sooner has been solid in his short time with Lake Elsinore, slashing .298/.358/.541 despite a 39.1% strikeout rate in his first 16 Cal League games. A 2025 UDFA, eight of Willis’ first 18 hits this season have gone for extra bases. … Sean Barnett worked a clean eighth inning, walking one, with one strikeout. Barnett’s four-seamer topped out at 97 mph while his pitch mix generated a 50% whiff rate (three whiffs on six swings). Over his past 20.1 innings, the 2024 11th-round pick owns a 2.61 ERA, 11.3 K/9, and has held opposing hitters to a .197 batting average. Even in that same span, he’s still struggled with command, walking 19 batters.
