Sugarland Space Cowboys 7, Chihuahuas 1

Key Stats: RHP Sean Boyle 5 IP, 4 H, ER, 2 BB, 3 K; DH Nate Mondou 1-for-4, 3B, R; CF Carlos Rodriguez 3-for-4; LF Nick Pratto 2-for-4; 1B Romeo Sanabria 1-for-4

Prospect Watch: After JP Sears got called up to San Diego, Sean Boyle made the emergency start, stepping into the rotation for the first time since May 8. It was Boyle’s best start of the season by far. Boyle, who signed a minor league deal with the Padres in the offseason, has bounced between starting and a bulk relief roll all season. After carrying an ERA over 7 for most of the season, Boyle has settled down in June and has posted a 1.52 ERA over 15.2 innings. Despite only getting three strikeouts and sitting 89 mph with his sinker, Boyle had a season-high 14 swing-and-misses. … In his first appearance after being promoted on Monday, Romeo Sanabria made his first Triple-A start. After hitting a weak grounder in his first at-bat, Sanabria had exit velocities over 98 mph in his last three at-bats, including a hard line-drive that glanced off the Sugar Land pitcher for his first hit.  …  With most of the El Paso outfield now in San Diego, Carlos Rodriguez has picked up the slack. He continued a red-hot June, going 3-for-4 on the afternoon. Rodriguez has 10 hits over his last five games, is hitting .350 in June, and has hit safely in 27 of 28 games dating back to May 20. While Rodriguez does not hit for much power, he is hitting .311 on the season with a .375 OBP.

Arkansas Travelers 8, Missions 5

Key Stats: LHP Jagger Haynes 6.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K; SS Carson Tucker 1-for-4, 2B, R, RBI; 2B Ryan Jackson 2-for-5, 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI; LF Jake Cunningham 3-for-5, RBI; CF Kai Roberts 1-for-3, R, BB, SB (22)

Prospect Watch: The Missions had a slew of players make their debut in this one, including the two key relievers who joined the club Monday. Clay Edmondson came on with the go-ahead run on second in the seventh inning and retired the only batter he faced on a grounder. The sidewinder was the best pitcher in the TinCaps bullpen through the first half, posting a 1.67 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 27 innings. … Tucker Musgrove got into this one as well, coming on with two runners on after Arkansas had already plated two runs. The flamethrower issued a walk and uncorked a wild pitch to push across one more run before recording a sacrifice fly and striking out the final batter he saw. … On the offensive side, Jake Cunningham collected his first Double-A hit in his second game. It was part of a three-hit night where Cunningham also picked up his first RBI against higher-level competition. The former fifth-round pick of the Orioles signed a minor league deal this offseason and has paid immediate dividends. After posting a .598 OPS in High-A, Cunningham last season, the 23-year-old strung together a .929 OPS in 57 games with the TinCaps. … Speaking of high draft picks who came in as minor league free agents, Carson Tucker made his first appearance for the Missions in nearly three weeks, though he was never placed on the IL. He returned straight into the leadoff spot and had an RBI double and later scored. Despite the lengthy absence, Tucker is still hitting .333 in six June games with a .848 OPS.  The 24-year-old has already set career highs in most offensive categories. … After surrendering three runs in the first, Jagger Haynes settled down and retired 15 of the next 17 batters and pitched into the seventh inning for the second time this season. He hit a season-high seven strikeouts for the third time. Haynes has pitched into the sixth inning in eight of his last ten starts and has put together a 3.88 ERA during that stretch.

TinCaps 7, Lake County Captains 6

Key Stats: RHP Winyer Chourio 5 IP, 5 H, ER, 3 BB, 4 K;  RHP Daison Acosta 1.2 IP, H, R, BB, 2 K; CF Ryan Wideman 1-for-4, R, RBI, 2 SB (46), BBl 1B Luke Cantwell 2-for-4, HR (3), 2B, 3 RBI; RF Kavares Tears 3-for-4, 2B, HR (9), 2 R

Prospect Watch: After breaking out in the California League, Winyer Chourio made his first High-A start. The 21-year-old quickly learned that he can’t throw fastballs down the middle, giving up a home run and a single on the first pitches of at-bats in the first inning.  He made an adjustment and that wound up being the only run Chourio gave up in five innings. At the time of his promotion, Chourio was third in the Cal League with 74 strikeouts in 51.2 innings. The righty struck out three in his debut as he adjusted to more advanced hitters. Chourio hit 98 mph with his fastball a few times, but primarily sat 93-94 mph on his fastball. While he did not generate the same swing-and-miss stuff as he normally does on his curve, when hitters did put it in play, it was largely weak contact. … While the rest of the new TinCaps made their debut yesterday, Luke Cantwell made a mark in his debut. The first baseman had a .971 OPS in Lake Elsinore despite only hitting two home runs. Cantwell obliterated the first High-A pitch he saw to dead center for a home run. Cantwell would later blow the game open in the fifth with a two-run double. Quite a debut for the final draft pick by the Padres last season. …. Kavares Tears came a triple away from hitting for the cycle.  The 2024 fourth-round pick continues to show incredible power, when he can make contact. Of his 42 hits, 25 have gone for extra-base hits, giving Tears an incredible .250 ISO, but it has come with a troubling 32% strikeout rate. This was Tears’ sixth home run in June alone and is currently hitting .340 with a .840 slugging percentage this month. … Daison Acosta continues to move up in his rehab progresses. The 27-year-old had a 13.80 K/9 as the closer for the Nationals’ Double-A team last year, and was given an outside chance at making the Padres out of spring training after he signed a big-league deal with the Padres last winter, but an injury derailed those hopes. Acosta allowed an unearned run over 1.2 innings in his 2026 High-A debut.  Look for him to make another several more appearances before moving up again.

Storm 4, Fresno Grizzlies 2

Key Stats: RHP Isaiah Lowe 2 IP; RHP Jordan Valenzuela IP, 2 BB, 2 K; 1B Dawson Willis 2-for-4, HR (2), 2B, 2 RBI; C Yoiber Ocopio 2-for-4, 2B, RS, SB (5); 3B Yimy Tovar 1-for-2, 2 RBI; CF Conner Westenburg 0-for-3, RS, 2 SB (29)

Prospect Watch: With half of the Storm lineup being promoted this week, it is time for the next batch of prospects to step up. Infielder Dawson Willis answered the call as last year’s undrafted free agent hit a home run to left field that got out so fast that it smacked off a shed and caused it to make a thunderous sound that reverberated through the stadium. He would later double, giving him his fifth extra-base hit in seven Cal League games. In 23 games between Peoria and Lake Elsinore Willis is hitting .314 with a 1.012 OPS. … Hard-throwing 21-year-old Jordan Valenzuela made his 2026 Cal League. At the time of his promotion, Valenzuela owned a 2.84 ERA, .167 average against and had struck out 39.5% of the batters he faced. Unfortunately, that dominance was paired with more than a walk per inning. That pattern emerged again Wednesday, when he struck out the first two batters he faced before walking the next two. He then induced a fly out to escape with a scoreless debut. … Yoiber Ocopio broke out of a 1-for-21 slump with his first multi-hit game in two weeks and collected his first extra-base hit in nearly that long. He also stole his first base since June 6. Ocopio is playing stateside for just the second year and has made the most of his opportunities.  After only seeing 12 at-bats in all of April as the third-string catcher, Ocopio has hit .304 since receiving regular playing time following Ty Harvey‘s injuries. … Sean Barnett picked up his first career save. He did allow a run on a hit, but settled in to record the final outs. Barnett has shown an impressive repertoire on the mound, but like many players becoming full-time pitchers, location is an issue. Barnett now has 32 walks in 23.1 innings this season.  Over his last eight outings, Barnett has a 2.16 ERA, with a 14.0 K/9 and a 9.7 BB/9 rate.

ACL Giants 7, ACL Padres 1 (7 innings)

Key Stats: RHP Kannon Kemp 1.2 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, BB; RHP Erick Batista 3 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, BB, 6 K; LF Eddson Martinez 2-for-3, 2B; 3B Luis De Leon 2-for-3

Kannon Kemp is working to get back in shape after having another season derailed by injuries. (Photo: Jerry Espinoza)

Prospect Watch: Kannon Kemp looked solid in the first inning of his second rehab appearance. The big Texan generated three grounders and a flyout to keep the inning scoreless. The 2023 eighth-round pick did not have the same luck in the second, eventually allowing four runs to cross the plate. Kemp had a lackluster 2025 campaign in Lake Elsinore, but stood out in the AFL, where he had solid results against more experienced hitters. If Kemp can locate his pitches, he has the arsenal to succeed.  … After hitting .442/.583/.698 in the DSL this season, 18-year-old Eddson Martinez collected his first stateside hits on Wednesday. The Nicaraguan led off the game with a booming double to center, later added a single. Through two games in the ACL, Martinez has the fun line of .400/.500/.600. … The Padres’ only other two hits in the game came courtesy of Luis De Leon. Unlike Martinez, De Leon has been a mainstay in Peoria for each of the last three seasons. The 20-year-old has six hit over his last four games in the desert, and in June is hitting .328 with a .438 OBP.
