San Diego Padres Daily Farm Report June 3

Sugarland Space Cowboys 15, Chihuahuas 8

Nick Solak has been a welcome addition to the middle of the El Paso lineup. (Photo: Jorge Salgado)

Key Stats: 1B Nick Solak 4-for-4, 2B, HR (8), 4 RBI, SB (5); 2B Marcos Castañon 2-for-4, HR (7), RBI; C Blake Hunt 2-for-4, HR (1), RBI; DH Pablo Reyes 3-for-4, 2B, HR (6), 3 R, RBI, BB

Prospect Watch: Prior to the game, Ty Adcock and Blake Hunt were both activated from the IL and rejoined El Paso. Hunt made his first start for a full-season Padres affiliate since 2019, when he was with the TinCaps. Hunt, who was subsequently part of the Blake Snell trade, spent the last three seasons in Triple-A for three different organizations before signing with the Padres in the offseason. Now that he has recovered from an oblique injury he suffered early in spring, he should immediately become the primary catcher in El Paso. In his first game back in action, he homered as part of a two-hit game. The 27-year-old has been an above-average offensive contributor each of the last three years. If he performs well quickly, he could be in line to be the second catcher to make his MLB debut for the 2026 Padres. … Nick Solak saw himself in the news  after Jo Adell committed the first four-base error in a game since August of 2020, when he did the same thing to Solak. Wednesday though, Solak had a perfect day at the plate. He had two singles a double, a home run, and a sac fly, coming just a triple short of the cycle.  The 31-year-old is hitting .335/.421/.526 on the season but, as a first baseman, he plays the one position the Padres have depth. … Even with Jace Bowen and Samad Taylor in San Diego, El Paso is not short on offensive threats. Pablo Reyes just continues to scorch the ball. The 32-year-old, who has spent parts of seven seasons in the majors, is making a case for an eighth. Reyes went 3-for-4, including hitting his sixth home run and 14th double of the season, pushing his batting line up to .344/.447/.561. The 14-year veteran is on pace to set career highs in most categories this season. Reyes has spent the bulk of his time this season at third, but has also played second, shortstop, and first. In his minor league career, Reyes has started at least 75 games at five different positions.

Wichita Wind Surge 7, Missions 6

Key Stats: RHP Victor Lizarraga 2.1 IP, 2 H, 5 ER, 6 BB, 4 K; RHP Francis Peña 2 IP, H, 3 K; DH Ethan Salas 0-for-3, 2 BB, SB (11); 2B Carson Tucker 2-for-5, 2 2B, 2 R; 1B Romeo Sanabria 2-for-5, HR (5), 2 R, 3 RBI; C Chris Sargent 1-for-2, HR (2), RBI, BB

Prospect Watch: As is the case so often in baseball, walks kill. After pitching well through the first two innings, Victor Lizarraga walked the bases loaded in the third, hit a batter, and then grooved a fastball that was tagged for a grand slam. This was the fifth time in 11 starts Lizarraga has walked at least four batters, and his walk rate has spiked to a career-worst 13.7%. The Imperial Beach native has a 6.70 ERA in his third stint with the Missions. … Carson Tucker, who came into the game with a .089 isolated power rate, had a pair of doubles, coming around to score both times. The former first-round pick of the Guardians had been in a two-week long slump, going just 7-for-48 (.150) since May 15. … Tucker scored when Romeo Sanabria hit a no-doubt home run to right-center to give the Missions the lead late. After showing his power in spring training, Sanabria has had problems flexing it through the regular season. The home run was his first in two weeks, and just his third since April 15. After posting a .573 SLG in his breakout 2023 season, Sanabria has a .377 SLG over his last two seasons in San Antonio. … Ethan Salas did not record a hit, but did walk twice and stole his 11th base of the year to establish a new career high. Salas’ .361 on-base percentage this season is 50 points above his previous season best.

Lake County Captains 17, TinCaps 7

Key Stats: RHP Maikel Miralles 1.2 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, 2 K, 4 BB, HBP; Isaiah Lowe 2 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 2 ER, BB, 2 K; CF Kasen Wells 2-for-4, R, BB; C Lamar King Jr. 2-for-4, R, RBI, BB; 1B Jack Costello 1-for-4, R, RBI; RF Kavares Tears 1-for-3, HR (4), 3 RBI, BB

Prospect Watch: The TinCaps scored six runs in the first inning, then gave up 17 unanswered runs before finally tacking on one more in the ninth. The big hit in the first came off the bat of Kavares Tears, who jumped all over a first-pitch fastball and laced it over the left-center field fence for a three-run home run. All four of Tears’ home runs this season have come on the first pitch of the at-bat. The former Tennessee Volunteer has shown flashes of big power, but has struggled to harness it since being drafted in 2024. Tears has increased his walk rate from 12% to 15% this year, but his strikeout rate has also edged up above 30% and his overall production has dropped. … Lamar King Jr. bookended the game with RBI hits.  King got the scoring started in the first by beating out a soft grounder to the pitcher for an RBI, the collected a 2-out RBI single in the ninth. Since hitting .217 in April, King has hit .300 (27-for-91), including back-to-back multi-hit games. King has walked 27 times in 46 games this season and has a .379 OBP. … Speaking of hitting at a high level, Kasen Wells has found a groove on offense. The former 16th-round pick reached base safely three times  and has now gotten on safely 12 times in the last six games. While Wells has only homered twice in 135 minor league games, he does have 44 steals and a .373 career OBP, with a .391 rate this year. … Maikel Miralles blew through a quick 8-pitch first inning, before losing it when he returned with a big lead in the second. The 21-year-old from Venezuela walked four in the frame, including two with the bases loaded.  He also hit a batter and gave up two singles.  This is the third straight start Miralles was unable to get out of the third inning. He’s given up 21 earned runs over just six innings with 11 walks in those starts.

Kerrington Cross has been a force in the middle of the Storm lineup. (Photo: Robert Escalante)

Fresno Grizzlies 6, Storm 5

Key Stats: RHP Jesus Castro 5 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 5 K; RHP Nick Falter 3 IP, H, K; CF Ryan Wideman 2-for-4, 2B; 1B Kerrington Cross 1-for-4, HR (7); RBI; DH Jorge Quintana 1-for-4; LF Qrey Lott 1-for-3, HR (4), 2 RBI, BB; 3B Bradley Frye 1-for-4, 2B, RBI,R

Prospect Watch: The Storm were poised to be the only winning club on the night, carrying a 5-0 lead into the ninth. Instead, Carson Swilling and Rordy Mejia combined to give up six run as they walked three before a walk-off home run ended things. Long before the rally, Jesus Castro completely shut down the Grizzlies as the 18-year-old rebounded from his worst outing of the year. The undersized righty allowed just three hits across five scoreless innings, striking out five and inducing five easy ground-ball outs. Castro originally signed out of Mexico in 2024 for $10,000 before spending last year in the DSL. Over his last four starts, Castro has a 1.45 ERA and with 25 strikeouts across 18.2 innings. … Ryan Wideman continued to reach base with two more hits and now has a nine game on base streak. On the year, he’s reached at a .379 clip to go with his minor league-leading 36 stolen bases. His aggressiveness on the basepaths caught up with him Wednesday as he got picked off twice, one of which directly proceeded a home run. … That home run by Kerrington Cross was his seventh of the season. The 24-year-old has now reached base safely in 20 straight games.  On the season, Cross has a .468 OBP and .579 slugging percentage. … For the first time in his young career Qrey Lott has homered in back-to-back starts.  After arriving in Lake Elsinore late, and starting slow at the end of April, Lott has hit .330 since May 1 while slugging .510. Lott’s walk tonight was just his third in the last five weeks.  Lott’s OPS is up to .884 on the season.

ACL Mariners 4, ACL Padres 3 (7 innings)

Key Stats: RHP Cameron Nohos 4 IP, 4 H, 2 R, ER, BB, 8 K; 3B Santiago Vargas 2-for-3, HR (2), RBI; C Jack Mathey 1-for-1, R, BB, Sac

Prospect Watch: For the second straight week, Cameron Nohos dominated the Mariners. After four shutout innings last week, he did surrender an earned run this time around, but was almost untouchable otherwise. The 6-foot-8 righty with big velocity struck out eight of the 20 batters he faced, and over his last two starts, he has punched out 17 while giving up only four hits. The 22-year-old has allowed no more than one earned run in five of his six starts and should be one of the first names to reach Lake Elsinore when promotions start later in the month. … The Padres managed four hits total in the game, half of them belonging to Santiago Vargas. The 18-year-old from Colombia hit his second home run of the season. Half of his 10 hits on the season have gone for extra bases, so despite a .238 average, he is slugging .476. Vargas signed for $10,000 last January, but didn’t play last season. … Jack Mathey collected his second hit since May 8, snapping a rough go for the backstop. Mathey also drew a walk and laid down a sacrifice bunt, raising his OPS to .407 in just 35 plate appearances. The 22-year-old signed as an undrafted free agent out of Ohio Dominican last summer.
