Key Stats: LHP Marco Gonzalez 3 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K; RHP Ethan Routzahn (S, 3), IP, H, K; RF Samad Taylor 2-for-4, HR (7) 2 R, RBI; 1B Will Wagner 1-for-2, 3 BB; 2B Pablo Reyes 2-for-5, 2 HR (5), 3 RBI; SS Mason McCoy 3-for-5, R, RBI

Prospect Watch: Will Wagner, who was placed on the IL during spring training and is now officially on a rehab assignment to El Paso, continues to set the Triple-A on fire. In his fourth game as he works back from a strained oblique, Wagner had a single and three walks in five plate appearances and he has now reached base 13 times in 18 plate appearances (.722 OBP).  The versatile infielder has started at three different positions during his four games. … After a rare hitless game Tuesday, Samad Taylor got back to steamrolling the PCL. The 27-year-old hit his first home run in a week and seventh of the season as part of a two-hit game. Taylor had a career .785 OPS entering 2026 and currently has a career best .967 OPS through 31 games. … Pablo Reyes has had himself a series already, and its only Wednesday.  After hitting two doubles and a home run Tuesday, he followed it up with two home runs Wednesday. In four May games, Reyes is 7-for-17 with two doubles, four home runs, five runs scored, and 10 RBI.  He has a Triple-A leading 1.709 OPS in the early going of the month. … The game winning run scored on a two-out RBI single by Mason McCoy, who now has a career-best 14-game hitting streak. During the streak he is hitting .429 with 13 RBI and the defense-first shortstop has his season numbers up to a .316 average and .913 OPS.

Midland Rockhounds 8, Missions 3

Key Stats: LHP Fernando Sanchez 5 IP, 3 H, 3 BB, 8 K; CF Kai Roberts 2-for-5, R, SB (8); 1B Romeo Sanabria 2-for-4, 2B, RBI, BB; 3B Carson Tucker 3-for-4, 2B, R; SS Francisco Acuna 1-for-2, 2B, 2 RBI, BB

Prospect WatchFernando Sanchez made his third start of the year and made it through five innings for the first time. He did not allow a run for the first time in 2026 and tied his career high with eight strikeouts. The soft-tossing lefty (89-91 mph) constantly pounded the zone with fastballs on the corners, before generating swing-and-miss with his off-speed pitches. The 25-year-old has a 33.7% strikeout rate on the season, but his 17.4% walk rate is alarming. … Romeo Sanabria got the scoring started early, hammering an RBI double to the gap in left-center. He later singled and walked to reach base three times for the second time in the last three games.  Over his last 11 games, Sanabria has walked 12 times, and despite hitting .188 on the season, has a .308 OBP.  Unfortunately, it was Sanabria’s error that played a big role in a four-run seventh inning that put the Missions behind for good. … There are two first-round draft picks currently on the Missions. The first is Lucas Giolito who was drafted 16th overall in 2012. The other, Carson Tucker, was taken 23rd overall in 2020. In three years in the Guardians organization, Tucker never hit over .200 or finished with an OPS over .620. Wednesday, Tucker had three hits Wednesday and is now hitting .333/.388/.483 with the Missions. He collected his seventh double and now has 29 total bases in 19 games, both new career highs. Tucker has rotated between second, shortstop, and third base this season. The 24-year-old is slowly putting himself back on the prospect radar. … After climbing back into the top 30 prospects in the new Baseball America ranking, Ethan Salas was given the day off.

Jake Cunningham has been a key contributor for the TinCaps in his first season with the organization. (Photo: Jeff Nycz)

Game 1: TinCaps 5, Beloit Sky Carp 0 (7 innings)

Key Stats: RHP Matthew Watson 4 IP, 2 H, BB, K; RHP Isaiah Lowe 3 IP, 2 BB, 3 K; 2B Rosman Verdugo 1-for-3, HR (5), RBI; RF Jake Cunningham 1-for-2, 2B, R, BB; 3B Zach Evans 2-for-3, 2B, HR (1), 2 R, 3 RBI

Game 2: Beloit Sky Carp 4, TinCaps 2 (7 innings)

Key Stats: RHP Maikel Miralles 4 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K; RHP Tucker Musgrove 1.1 IP, 2 H, ER, BB, 3 K; CF Kasen Wells 1-for-3, R, 2B, Assist; RF Jake Cunningham 2-for-3, 2 RBI

Prospect Watch: Despite being drafted in 2024 by the Padres, Matthew Watson did not make his professional debut until last month because of Tommy John surgery. In the three weeks since, he has been building up his innings, leading to this, his first professional start. He made the most of it, tossing four scoreless innings. While he did not generate a lot of swing-and-miss, he did get a lot of quick outs, needing just 48 pitches. The 24-year-old will look to continue to build up innings throughout the season. … Jake Cunningham was the lone TinCap to excel in both games. After doubling and walking in the first game, the 23-year-old had two more hits and two RBI in the second game. The former fifth-round pick was released by the Orioles this past offseason after hitting .206 in High-A.  This season, he is hitting .341 with a 1.055 OPS in 25 games and he has hit safely in all five May games. … Tucker Musgrove once again flashed an upper-90s fastball, but continued to struggle with control as he walked one, hit a batter, and gave up a pair of hits while recording four outs. The 24-year-old did record three of his four outs via strikeout, but needed to rely on aggressive hitters chasing out the zone to get them. On the season, Musgrove owns has punched out 35.9% of the batters he has faced, but his unsightly 20.5% walk rate has contributed to a WHIP of 2.05. … Zach Evans was the hero of game one.  Coming into the double header, Evans had one RBI in 18 games this season.  With one swing of the bat, he picked up two more and would later add a third as he homered and doubled. The 2024 ninth-round pick has been struggling with Fort Wayne after slashing .296/.367/.377 for Lake Elsinore in 2025.

Key Stats: RHP Jesus Castro 5.2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 7 K; RHP Nick Falter 2 IP, BB, 4 K; 3B Bradley Frye 2-for-4, RBI; SS Jorge Quintana 2-for-3, 2B; 1B Kerrington Cross 2-for-3, 2B, 3B, 2 R, SB (2)

Prospect Watch: Jesus Castro – the 18-year-old pitcher, not the recently-released veteran catcher – continues to improve as he made just his fifth stateside start. This time last year, Castro had yet to make his DSL debut after signing with the Padres out of the Diablos Rojos system on January 15. Wednesday, he pitched into the sixth for the first time this year, while also setting  a new career high with seven strikeouts. After walking nine over 14 innings in his first four starts, Castro did not walk a batter in this one. He did hit his final batter of the night, that batter would come around to score which saddled Castro with the tough luck loss. … Five days ago, Jorge Quintana was off to a horrendous start to the season.  The teenager was hitting under .200 with a .550 OPS. Three straight multi-hit games later, Qunitana is up to .247 with a .669 OPS. He’s gone 7-for-12 with two doubles and two walks in this stretch with an OPS of 1.390.  … Another hitter off to a fast start to the month of May is Kerrington Cross. The senior-sign seventh-round pick out of last year’s draft finished April hitting .184 with a .734 OPS. In three May games, Cross has gone 4-for-9 with two doubles, a triple, and four walks. Cross hit .396 with a 1.173 OPS in his senior year at Cincinnati. … Undrafted free agent Nick Falter continues to find success as a multi-inning reliever for the Storm.  The 23-year-old allowed one baserunner over two innings, striking out four.  Over his first 10 games as a professional, Falter has a 1.96 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, and a 9.3 K/9.
