Beyond the five games played across the system, the biggest Padres prospect news of the day was the club’s selection of high school shortstop Jackson Merrill in the first round of the draft. Rounds 2-10 will continue Monday.

Chihuahuas 7, Oklahoma City Dodgers 7 (Suspended/T7)

Key Stats: 3B Matthew Batten 2-for-3, 2B, RBI; CF Taylor Kohlwey 1-for-3, HR (3), 4 RBI; 2B Ivan Castillo 2-for-3; LHP Jerry Keel 6 IP, 9 H, 7 R (2 ER), 3 K, 1 BB

Prospect Watch: The Chihuahuas and Dodgers got through six before a serious storm that had bearing down all night got to be too much and the game was suspended. The contest will be played to its conclusion before Monday night’s regularly scheduled match-up. … With the wind really whipping in the sixth inning, El Paso put together a six-run rally, culminating with an inside-the-park grand slam by Taylor Kohlwey that carried over DJ Peters in center. Kohlwey has been on fire this month, hitting .423/.500/.808 in 30 plate appearances. The Wisconsin native who turns 27 this month had played primarily on the corners coming into the year, but has logged the majority of his innings in El Paso in center field. … Lefty Jerry Keel pushed through six innings in the less-than-ideal weather. The big man was charged with seven runs, but only two were earned as he and two of his infielders each committed errors on the night. Keel also collected a hit and drove in the first run for El Paso.

Futures Game Update: Catcher Luis Campusano hit a laser beam of a sacrifice fly to the track in left field in the second of his two plate appearances in the Futures Game. MLB did not replace CJ Abrams on the roster after his injury, so Campusano was the only Padres representative.

Missions 6, Amarillo Sod Poodles 1 (F/7)
Sod Poodles 6, Missions 0 (F/7)

Key Stats: SS Eguy Rosario 1-for-3, HR (7); CF Jose Azocar 1-for-4, HR (5); DH Michael Curry 1-for-1, 2 BB; RHP Adrian Martinez 6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 4 K, 2 BB; RHP Pedro Avila 1 IP, 2 K; LHP Osvaldo Hernandez 4 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 3 K, 1 BB; RHP Carlos Belen 1 IP, 1 H, 2 K

Prospect Report: After two straight days of rainouts, John and Mark finally had some baseball to report on with Sunday’s double-header. The Missions offense didn’t collect a hit in the second game, but they can’t call it a no-hitter.

TinCaps 7, Lake County Captains 4

Key Stats: RF Agustin Ruiz 3-for-4, 2B; 1B Seamus Curran 2-for-4, HR (3); 2B Justin Lopez 2-for-3, BB

Prospect Watch: Kevin has the recap from a wild game that included a surprise spot start, an injury departure, and a three-hit night for Agustin Ruiz.

Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 10 Storm 9 (F/10 Innings)

Key Stats: DH Robert Hassell III 2-for-4, 2B, BB, SB (20); CF Joshua Mears 3-for-5, 2 HR (9); LF Angel Solarte 2-for-4, SB (5); SS Euribiel Angeles 2-for-5; RHP Jesus Lugo 3 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 K, 0 BB, HBP; RHP Chase Walter 1.1 IP, 1 H, 3 R (0 ER), 1 K, 2 BB, WP

Prospect Watch: The Storm built up a 7-2 lead by the middle of the sixth inning, but watched it slip away until consecutive bases-loaded walks in the bottom of the 10th plated the tying and go-ahead runs in a gut-punch loss. Joshua Mears keyed the Storm offense, clubbing a pair of homers and adding a single in five trips to the plate. The big man entered the night with just one homer in 25 road games, but he’s posted a .967 OPS at home. … Robert Hassell III and Euribiel Angeles both had two-hit afternoons to spark the Storm. For Angeles, two singles extended his hitting streak to 19 and pushed his average up to .353, tops in the league among qualified batters. Hassell connected on his 18th double and swiped his 20th based of the year, good for third and fourth in the Low-A West league.
