Prospect Watch: While Wil Myers was hitting a pair of homers in San Diego, Sugar Land outfielder Jake Meyers tagged MacKenzie Gore for a pair of homers in El Paso. Meyers’ second shot put the exclamation point on arguably Gore’s worst professional outing. The top prospect surrendered three homers and allowed six runs although only two were earned, thanks to some shoddy defense behind him, and he left after recording just one out in the second inning. The homers Gore allowed were the first three he has allowed all year. Through 20 innings in El Paso, Gore has 24 hits and walked 12 while striking 18. Gore continues to have spotty command of his fastball which doesn’t allow the off-speed stuff to play. Gore’s performance is definitely concerning but he is still just 22 and has thrown 41.2 innings above the High-A level. … LHP Nick Ramirez entered in the middle innings and allowed just one hit and a walk in three innings. Ramirez, 31, has had four separate stints in the big leagues this season in part for his ability to work multiple innings out of the bullpen. In 19 innings with El Paso, Ramirez has a sparkling 0.92 ERA with 20 strikeouts and just four walks. Ramirez was converted to a pitcher in 2017 while a member of the Brewers’ organization. He has 96 career minor league home runs. … Luis Campusano hit a monstrous home run – his fourth of the year, before being lifted for a pinch-hitter after the game got out of hand. The 22-year-old catcher raised his OPS above .800.

Missions 14, Northwest Arkansas Naturals 6

Prospect Watch: The Missions pounded out 17 hits and scored 14 runs to easily defeat the Naturals. San Antonio went 10-for-23 with runners in scoring position. … Shortstop CJ Abrams had four hits, including two doubles, and stole his tenth bag of the year. Abrams has hit well in June but he hasn’t flashed much power so Friday’s performance is encouraging in that department. Abrams had just two extra-base hits in June coming into Friday – both doubles. In 57 plate appearances, the 20-year-old infielder is hitting .333/.385/.404 this month. … In his second Double-A game, Dwanya Williams-Sutton had four hits and scored a pair of runs. The former East Carolina product has been an on-base machine throughout his career but hasn’t produced big power numbers thus far in his professional career but he has shown signs of a breakout in 2021 His ISO of .224 ranked 21^st in the High-A Central League among players with at least 50 plate appearances. Between the two stops, Williams-Sutton has a .975 OPS. … Center fielder Jose Azocar reached base four times and scored four runs to set the tone for the offense. Azocar is seventh in the Double-A Central League with 25 runs scored. … LHP Aaron Leasher continued his excellent run, throwing five solid innings to notch his fourth victory of the year. Leasher allowed just two hits and one earned run, walking one and punching out five. The 25-year-old has won each of his last three starts, tossing 16 innings while allowing just one earned run in the stretch. In those 16 innings, Leasher has allowed just nine hits and three walks.

The TinCaps were rained out on the road in Dayton. They will play a doubleheader on Saturday.
