Prospect Watch: The Sod Poodles won on the road in Midland to keep their season alive. … Taylor Trammell had three hits and has now hit safely in each of his last eight games. The left-handed swinging Trammell has four multi-hit games during the hot stretch, which includes a pair of three-hit games. He is 5-for-13 (.385 average) during the playoff series with Midland. … Buddy Reed had a pair of singles and scored two runs Friday night. The 24-year-old struggled down the stretch for Amarillo after a hot July, although he did have a walk-off homer on August 28th against Tulsa. … RHP Kyle Lloyd turned in a masterful performance to keep the Sod Poodles’ season alive. Lloyd worked into the eighth inning and allowed just a pair of earned runs on seven hits. Lloyd was hit hard in a pair of August outings but overall he pitched well, giving the Sod Poodles a veteran arm with the ability to eat innings. Lloyd is 28 and will be eligible for free agency this winter, assuming he isn’t added to the 40-man roster. … Luis Torrens connected on a solo homer for his first hit in the series. The 23-year-old receiver finished the year on a tear and, because he’s on the 40-man roster already, could join the big league club when the Sod Poodles finish their playoff run.

Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 6 Storm 5

Key Statistics: 2B Xavier Edwards 3-for-4, R, BB, RBI, SB (3); DH Luis Campusano 2-for-5, 2B, RBI; 1B Eguy Rosario 1-for-4, R, HR (1), 2 RBI; RHP Caleb Boushley 3 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 7 K; RHP Felix Minjarez 5 IP, 2 H, 4 K; RHP Mason Fox (L, 0-1) 0 IP, 2 H, 2 ER.

Prospect Watch: The Storm brought a one-run lead into the ninth inning but the Quakes hit back-to-back homers off of Storm reliever Mason Fox to avoid the sweep and keep the series going. All the remaining games in this series will be played in Rancho. … For Fox, the ninth inning meltdown is the rare blemish on a breakout year in his first full season in the organization. He hadn’t given up an earned run since the end of July, when he was working out of the Tri-City bullpen. … Second baseman Xavier Edwards had three hits and drew a walk out of the leadoff spot. Edwards is 7-for-11 with four walks, four runs scored, and three stolen bases in the series against the Quakes. The speedy infielder is a big reason why the Storm has scored 20 runs in the three games played so far. … First baseman Eguy Rosario hit a homer in the seventh inning that tied the game. The 20-year-old infielder broke out in the second half, as he hit .319/.370/.485 with 5 homers and 55 RBI in the season’s final 70 games. In addition to his prowess with the bat, Rosario has played every infield position and he has an above-average arm. We’ve mentioned it before but Rosario is Rule 5 eligible after the year, so the Padres will have a decision to make about the talented infielder. … RHP Felix Minjarez would have been the hero of the game had the Storm hung on for the victory. The Riverside native relieved an ineffective Caleb Boushley and pitched five scoreless frames, retiring the final 12 batters in order. Minjarez was signed last year as an undrafted free agent and he has pitched well wherever the organization has placed him this season. Overall, Minjarez had a 2.53 ERA in 53.1 innings between Tri-City and Lake Elsinore.

Prospect Watch: The Dust Devils won their playoff series on a walk-off walk by Sean Guilbe. Tri-City advances to the Northwest League championship series beginning Saturday at Hillsboro. … Logan Driscoll had a pair of hits and drew a walk in the victory. The catcher/outfielder went 4-for-12 with three walks and a pair of RBI in the series. The 21-year-old was the highest draft pick to appear in Pasco this summer. … RHP Nick Thwaits battled and kept Spokane off the board, despite allowing eight baserunners in 4.1 innings. The 20-year-old pitcher has been a little inconsistent at times but has shown plenty of promise. … RHP Wen-Hua Sung came out of the bullpen and threw a pair of scorless innings, striking out four in the process. The 23-year-old pitched very well in his second stint in the Northwest League, after struggling last year. Sung struck out 59 batters in 41.1 innings and pitched to a 3.05 ERA in 2019.
