Prospect Watch: El Paso allowed six runs in the first and were never really in this one as they lost to Salt Lake on the road. … Right fielder Michael Gettys tied the Chihuahuas’ team record by clubbing his 30th homer of the season. Gettys also connected on a double and drove in three runs. The outfielder has been scorching-hot in August, hitting .300/.349/.775, although that has come with just one walk and 13 strikeouts in 41 plate appearances. … Aderlin Rodriguez posted two doubles among his three hits and scored a pair of runs out of the designated hitter spot. The 27-year-old slugger wasn’t activated until June but he has impressed overall. Rodriguez has struck out in just 17% of his plate appearances while hitting .313/.355/.617 … LHP Dietrich Enns allowed three homers in the first inning and left the game having recorded just two outs. The veteran lefty has eaten innings for El Paso but he’s been very hittable. Enns has allowed a PCL-high 36 homers in 124.1 innings. … LHP Travis Radke pitched two scoreless innings in relief, striking out a pair. The lefty has put up solid results wherever he has been asked to pitch. Between Lake Elsinore, Amarillo and El Paso, Radke has pitched a 2.74 ERA in 62.1 innings. … Robert Stock had his rehab assignment transferred to El Paso after a pair of stellar outings in the desert. The hard-throwing 29-year-old was tagged for a pair of runs in his inning Friday, giving up a homer after issuing his 19th walk in 28.1 PCL innings for the year.

Prospect Watch: The Sod Poodles jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning but couldn’t keep Frisco off of the board in the middle innings. … Shortstop Ivan Castillo had a pair of singles Friday night. The versatile infielder has seen his production fall off considerably this month but he still leads the Texas League with a .318 average. The 24-year-old has produced just a .581 OPS this month. … Catcher Luis Torrens connected for his 12th homer of the year, his only hit of the evening. The young catcher has been solid all year offensively and currently sports a career-high .833 OPS. Defensively, Torrens has caught 48% of would-be basestealers and has just six passed balls in 663 innings behind the plate. He had 21 a year ago in Lake Elsinore. … LHP Nick Margevicius pitched four innings but ultimately did not factor in the decision. The former big leaguer allowed three runs on seven hits while striking out four. Margevicius has had some issues keeping the ball in the park in Amarillo, allowing 11 homers at home, compared to just two on the road. On the road, he has a 3.09 ERA in 32 innings, with opposing hitters batting just .212. At home, the lefty has a 5.52 ERA in 31 innings, with opponents hitting .323.

Prospect Watch: The Storm mustered just seven hits and lost at home … Outfielder Jack Suwinski drove in the only Storm run of the night with a solo homer. The 21-year-old outfielder has struggled with strikeouts this year but he has shown some power and the ability to get on base via the walk. Since the all-star break, Suwinski has seven homers in 193 plate appearances. … LHP Aaron Leasher pitched well again but took the hard-luck loss. The southpaw cruised through the first four innings before allowing a run in both the fifth and sixth innings. Leasher allowed seven hits and two runs in six innings of work, walking two and striking out four. Overall, the former Morehead State hurler has thrown 115 innings for the Storm, pitching to a 3.13 ERA. Over his last ten outings, Leasher has dropped that to a 2.18 ERA with 60 strikeouts in 62 innings. … RHP Javy Guerra threw a scoreless inning Friday night. The converted pitcher has thrown the ball well, as he is sporting a 0.90 ERA over his last ten innings. In that time span, he’s walked just two batters while striking out eleven.

Prospect Watch: The TinCaps matched their franchise-worst loss on the road in Lansing. They turned to a pair of position players, Tyler Benson and Kelvin Melean to get through the eighth inning. … Michael Curry had a pair of singles to extend his hitting streak to five games. The 22-year-old outfielder has been the TinCaps’ most consistent hitter over the last two months. In 41 second-half games, the former Georgia Bulldog is hitting .296/.398/.451 with four homers. Overall, his .832 OPS leads all players that have suited up for Fort Wayne in 2019. … LHP Cullen Dana drew the start for Fort Wayne and got roughed up in his four innings of work. Dana allowed five runs on five hits, including one homer. The former Seton Hall hurler didn’t allow an earned run with Tri-City in 15 innings of work, which led to a promotion to Fort Wayne. Since reaching the Midwest League, Dana has a 6.26 ERA in five starts.

Prospect Watch: The Dust Devils lost on a walk-off, three-run homer in extra innings. … Shortstop Jordy Barley had a pair of hits and scored a run. The shortstop is 6-for-14 in the Dust Devils’ current series against Everett and has hit .406/.423/.797 against them on the year. The 19-year-old has shown some power this season but strikeouts have been an issue. Barley is third in the Northwest League with 76 strikeouts while his eight homers are tied for fourth. … Sean Guilbe started in left field and had a multi-hit game. The versatile Guilbe has shown a good approach and has a great deal of power potential. Overall, he has a .784 OPS while playing his home games at cavernous Gesa Stadium. In case you missed it, John chronicled Guile’s approach in his most recent trip to Pasco. … LHP Ethan Elliott started and pitched three shutout innings. Elliott, the Padres’ 10th-round pick in June, has pitched a 1.95 ERA in 27.2 Northwest League innings. He has an excellent 28-to-4 strikeout-to walk-ratio in his pro debut.

Prospect Watch: The AZL teams split a pair of decisions Friday night. … Luis Almanzar had a pair of hits and drew a walk for the AZL Padres-2. Almanzar, 19, has bounced around in the desert, seeing time at short, third, first and left field. Overall, Almanzar has been inconsistent in the desert, as he sports a .237/.423/.356. Almanzar signed for $4 million back in 2016 and hasn’t produced but he is still very young. … Switch-hitting catcher Brandon Valenzuela had three hits, including a double. The 18-year-old from Hermosillo, Mexico currently sports a six-game hitting streak. Valenzuela has yet to homer but he has shown a keen eye at the plate on his way to a .386 on-base percentage. … LHP Gabriel Morales threw six shutout innings, allowing just three hits but he took a no-decision. The 20-year-old southpaw has not allowed a run over his last 23.2 innings. During that span, Morales has struck out 29 while walking six. In 10 games (five starts) Morales has a 1.85 ERA.
Just curious as to why Luis Torrens doesn’t make the Padres top 30 on the Prospect list? He is having a solid year. And from what I read is great behind the plate, As a Yankee fan I wish we still had him in the system. I know San Diego is loaded down on the farm but really?
Having spent the entire 2017 campaign in the big leagues, he’s not eligible. Coming into the year, it’s debatable whether he would have been on many because the defense behind the plate was so spotty, but he’s stopped taking innings off and is showing much better fundamentals, so he’d firmly belong if he was eligible. He has one option year remaining, so his trade value is diminished a bit compared to other guys producing at the same level.
